Confession time: I devote a lot more time to keeping my own car clean than I do to keeping my wife’s car clean.
I decided today that the CX-5 was looking pretty rough, so I gave it a quick wash, clay bar, and wax. It’s not perfect. There are still some caked on bugs here and there and I didn’t really do much to the interior, but it looks a hell of a lot better than it did.
It is a 2013 Mazda CX-5 Sport. Totally base aside from the Bluetooth enabled radio and the roof rails. 25,000 miles on it. We got it in November of 2012 with 6 miles on the odometer.
It’s front-wheel-drive but still damn good in the snow. Handled our 9-inch random snow in early March like a champ. It averages 26 MPG in town and 34 on the highway. We have seen as high as 37 MPG on a trip to Indianapolis to see my family. Contrary to what all reviews say, the 2.0 isn’t that slow. No problem keeping up with traffic and getting out of its own way.
Only things I wish it had were a blind spot monitor and a backup camera. We shouldn’t have got such a base model but oh well. It was cheap. And they gave us Mazda owner loyalty cash because I had my 3. And we haven’t had any problems out of it, either. It’s never been to the dealer except for tire rotations and oil changes.

You only put 25k miles on it in 3 years? I put over 50k km (31k miles) on my Yukon last year alone.

Mazda has a great line up - love the CX5, but love the Mazda3 wagon and Mazda6 more. One of those “no wrong answers” kind of questions.

Yep. And, I put about 7,500 miles a year on my 3. And we are averaging 4,000 miles a year on the truck. We drive every day, just never very far. I mean, the engines get warmed up. It’s not a “old lady driving to church and back” type of thing. However, anything we need is within a 20 mile radius. Her commute to work is 9 miles and mine is 8.

The new 6 is my favorite. An absolute gorgeous design. Oppo likes to complain about the 2.5’s lack of power, but I have test driven one and it was fine. Not a lot of speed available to reach on my daily commute, anyway. My next car will be a 2014+ Mazda6. Someday.

Ah, that makes a lot of sense then. My commute to work is nearly 100km (62 miles). Add in another 100km to return home and you’re at almost 200km a day, Monday through Friday.
The big trip is the reason I purchased a Jetta TDI back in April because the fuel costs on the truck were killing me. May seem like a lot of lost money in gas but it's still cheaper than living in Toronto where my office is.

I’m actually looking to put my wife in one after our son is born. Have you had any mechanical issues?

Nice work!
My mom has a CX-5 and it will get a nice little paint correction and full detail sometime in the near future. But of course, mine will be first:)

Nope. Not a single issue ever. It has never been to the dealer except to get its oil changed. The only issue it has is the rear map pockets are coming loose and that is our fault. :( You have to watch the rear seat when you fold it down or it will catch the pockets on the back of the front seats and pull on them (especially when I have been driving because I have the seat pushed pretty far back).

Good to know. Thank you.
